COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas Tech men’s tennis team continues its fall journey at the ITA Texas Regionals which begin Friday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the Texas A&M campus.
The Red Raiders have six singles entries and three doubles teams competing at the four-day event. Five of the six singles players have earned byes into the Round of 64, while Artem Kapshuk, Matheus Leite and Alex Sendegeya have earned seeds for the event.
Kapshuk earned a trio of qualifying wins en route to the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships his last time out.
“We’ve worked really hard the past few weeks on certain areas, and I’m hoping we can see some success from that,” Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. “With that being said, the competition is going to be tough. Everyone needs to be prepared to raise their level. I’m excited to see how our guys compete against a lot of teams from our conference and a few teams that we will play later this spring.”
The tournament field is highlighted by fellow Big 12 foes in Baylor, Texas and TCU in addition to Texas A&M, Abilene Christian, Rice UTRGV and UTSA who the Red Raiders have matchups with in dual match competition in the spring.
The ITA Texas Regionals starts with two singles rounds and one round of doubles on Friday with championship matches slated for Monday.
The singles and doubles champions receive an automatic qualify spot for the ITA National Fall Championships from November 1-5 in Indian Wells, California. The Red Raiders have had Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares (2015) in doubles along with Jolan Cailleau (2016) in singles qualify for the ITA National Fall Championships during each of the last two seasons.
