Student charged with officer's murder facing federal weapons charge

The 19-year-old student accused of gunning down a Texas Tech police officer is facing a federal weapons charge.

According to the indictment, Hollis Alvin Daniels III, 19, was in possession of a stolen .45 pistol at the time of his arrest.

The indictment indicates Daniels knowingly possessed the Springfield XD45 semi-automatic pistol that had been "shipped and transported in interstate and foreign commerce" before the firearm was stolen. 

Daniels is charged with capital murder in the death of TTUPD officer Floyd East Jr.
