Warmer and sunny next few days

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

THIS MORNING: It was a chilly start. What made it feel colder was the steady north wind. But that was also a factor in keeping the temperature up. I know, it doesn’t feel that way to us. But the ideal conditions for the temperature to really drop include light wind and a clear sky. We had a steady north breeze and some clouds. We don’t need a freeze right now, way too early for most crops around here.

Here are some low temp readings from the Texas Tech Mesonet:
Dimmitt 33
Friona 33
Dora 34
Happy 34
Hart 34
Tatum 34
Tulia 34
Muleshoe 36
Olton 34
Reese Center 38
Texas Tech campus 40

It was also down to 40 at the Lubbock airport, with the wind chill in the lower 30s.

THIS AFTERNOON: It’s a clear picture all across the region with a bright blue sky. The wind is finally diminishing. It’s in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

TONIGHT: Clear and cold, low in Lubbock near 40. It’ll be a few degrees cooler west and north of the city. Light wind becoming SW around 5 mph in the morning. Because we won't have the gusty north wind it won't feel nearly as cold as this morning.

TOMORROW: A bright, sunny day with a few high clouds in the afternoon. High near 72, wind SW 5-15mph.

REST OF THE WEEK: The warming trend will continue, with 80s Thursday and Friday. This weekend there’s a slight chance for rain, though we may not have enough humidity in place to get the rain.

Behind the next cold front the high will drop back into the 60s Sunday. This front doesn’t look as strong as the one that moved through yesterday.

7-day forecast

TEXAS TECH FORECAST: It’ll be rainy next few days in West Virginia. It’ll clear out for the weekend, kick in the 70s in Morgantown Saturday, end of the game near 80 with a lot of sun.

Look for the next forecast update here early tomorrow morning from Whitney.
