Digital records now essential to the Archive of Modern American Warfare

LUBBOCK, Texas -

If you are a veteran and served in any conflict since the Vietnam War, consider donating your records to Texas Tech as soon as possible.

The Archive of Modern American Warfare wants anything from e-mails to digital photos or your service record to keep for future generations.

Andrew Hinton, the archivist, said these modern files are so much easier to keep than old paper files so the sooner you can get those over to the archive, the better.

"Unlike paper records that you can put on a shelf and forget about for 50 years, then donate to the archive, you can't do that with digital records," Hinton said. "You know, e-mails, photographs, you can't put that on a external hard drive, put it on a shelf, and forget about it because in 50 years we're not gonna have access to those materials."

Hinton said these records will contribute to researching case studies, material, tactics and strategies for decades.
