Tulsa, Okla. – Artem Kapshuk of the Texas Tech men’s tennis team was handed a 7-5, 6-4 defeat by Oklahoma’s Ferran Calvo during Thursday’s opening round of the main draw at the Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
After he dropped the first set 7-5, Kapshuk nearly erased a 4-1 deficit in set two. He got back on-serve at 4-5 but was broken on a deuce point to conclude the match. Kapshuk will look to bounce back against Charlie Bloom of Dartmouth in the consolation bracket on Friday.
“Artem didn’t really have his best stuff today but still had a chance,” Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. “He fought hard but had to play from behind the entire match. Hopefully, he can play better tomorrow in the consolation.”
