LUBBOCK, Texas -

The CDC reports that only a quarter of today's youth meet the current recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Educators  across Lubbock, Hale, and Hockley counties are making sure their elementary students meet the recommended and plus more all thanks to a program called GoNoodle Plus and a partnership with Covenant Health.

"This program has shown good results in testing with improvements of language arts 25%, math up to 50% improvement and so it was a great way to start and go into partnership with LISD and the surrounding school districts in this county and the surrounding counties to improve the education but also the physical well being of these children," said Dr. Stan Garrett medical director of the Covenant Northwest clinic.

The program started in 2013 and its focus was to get students physically active while learning at the same time. GoNoodle is used in 80% of public elementary schools in all 50 states.

"We saw this need and introduced the idea of short incremental bursts of physical activity that teachers could use periodically throughout the school day to get kids up and moving," said Kelly Hill the Vice President of community partnerships at GoNoodle.

Go Noodle Plus also gives teachers the opportunity to incorporate their own lesson plans that reinforces what they are teaching in a fun and interactive way; while also improving the health and well being of their students. The program has a variety of learning videos and interactive games that students enjoy.

"The kids love GoNoodle they could do it every day," said Stephany McDougal a second grade teacher at Waters Elementary."We do have a lot of time for like transition time and when he have indoor recess we use that a lot. The parents love it because it gets them moving and still learning at the same time."

Through this partnership families whose children attend the schools can now also access go noodle plus at home, that keeps the education and movement going. You can visit the GoNoodle website below to download the app.
