Jarvis Scott, a Former Texas Tech women's track coach and Olympian, has died at the age of 70.

Scott was a sprinter who competed in the women's 400 metres at the 1968 Summer Olympics.

She was the first and only U.S. woman to qualify for the Olympics in both the 400 and 800 metres, but gave up her place in the 800-meter competition to teammate Francie Kraker.

After running for California State University, Scott coached at Tech from 1975 through 1979.

Following her retirement, she remained a resident in Lubbock and is a member of CSU's Hall of Fame.
