LUBBOCK, Texas -

The West End Neighborhood Association hosted National Night Out at Duran Park.

The purpose was to promote crime prevention and foster a sense of community among neighbors.

"I think maybe for a lot of people who haven't interacted socially with the Lubbock Police Department, maybe their only experience is being pulled over for a speeding ticket," said Teresa Diaz, president of the West End Neighborhood Association. "The uniform may seem a little intimidating and so events like this really help them to feel more comfortable, and feel like we are all a part of the same community."

Members of LPD, the Boys and Girls Club, the American Heart Association as well as the Texas Tech Masked Rider were on hand for the night's activities.
