LUBBOCK, Texas -

A Texas Supreme Court Justice paid Lubbock a visit.

Justice Eva Guzman spoke at the annual Judicial Red Mass at the Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Lubbock.

The dinner is a tradition that dates back to Paris in 1245 and signifies the opening of the legal year.

Prior to speaking at the Red Mass, Justice Guzman also spoke to Texas Tech law students about opportunities during and after school.

"When you can talk to law students about what it's like to try a lawsuit, about what considerations should go into writing a brief for the Supreme Court of Texas, about the way judges think, about the way judges go about cases, that is so important to citizens in our community," Guzman said.

Justice Guzman is the first Latina to serve on the Texas Supreme Court as well as to win statewide office.
