LUBBOCK, Texas -

A retired U.S. Army colonel visited Hutchinson Middle School today for their fourth annual Wounded Warrior Project.

Colonel Richard Menhart is a third generation service member, his grandfather served in World War II and his father served in Vietnam. He said serving this country is in his blood.

He served in the U.S. Military for 29 years and was wounded in 2010 in an IED attack along with 5 of his soldiers.

Menhart's focus for the visit was education and service.

"Not only the importance of education, but about life itself," Menhart said. "The importance of what service is to the country. I am just here to give them my observation of what 29 years did for me in the U.S. Military."

The Wounded Warrior Project week at Hutchinson Middle School will officially kick off during the second week of November.
