Josh Abbott Band safe after Las Vegas shooting

Josh Abbott says his band and crew are safe after the mass shooting in Las Vegas. Josh Abbott Band had just performed at the Route 91 Harvest Festival hours before the mass shooting that killed at least 50 and injured more than 200. The Clark County Sheriff reports the shooter, identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock fired shots from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort down on the crowd of thousands below.

Abbott, of Idalou, told FOX34 he had just left the concert about 30 minutes before the shooting started. He and his fiancee were staying at Mandalay Bay 12 floors below the gunman.

"We heard it from our room and I thought it sounded like gunfire," Abbott said. "People (were) running everywhere, cops and SWAT just storming the area."

Abbott's band and crew members were still at the concert in the crowd. He says all of them are safe and accounted for, but they were close to the carnage.

"My band and crew are okay but were feet away from being hit," Abbott said. "They witnessed people get shot near them. Couple of them got hit by shrapnel from the bullets hitting the ground."

Abbott said he left his hotel room to go see if he could help with the injured, but police made everyone evacuate to a few blocks away.
