UPDATE: Names released of two arrested after chase through central Lubbock, Texas Tech

A driver and a passenger were arrested following a police chase through central Lubbock that included the Texas Tech campus.

According to Lubbock Police, an officer heard gun shots near the Marsha Sharp Freeway and Avenue V. He tried to stop an SUV he believed was driven by someone involved. A chase began, with the suspect hitting a car near Mac Davis Lane and University. The car’s driver was treated for minor injuries.

The chase continued through the Tech campus, then led onto the Marsha Sharp Freeway. Officers unsuccessfully tried to stop the driver when the SUV stalled on the Freeway. Police were able to stop it near The Marsha Sharp Freeway and Avenue Q.

The driver and passenger were taken into custody.

The driver, a 24-year-old Ali Lara, is arrested for driving while intoxicated, evading arrest and discharge of a firearm in a municipality. Passenger, 19-year-old Jesus Altamirano, is arrested for public intoxication, and discharge of a firearm in a municipality.

Police report the pair's records show they live in the Dallas area, and it's unclear if either actually live in Lubbock.

Officers recovered a firearm and ammunition from the SUV.
