Post ISD celebrating a centennial anniversary

Post ISD was founded in Sept. 1917 and the district spends a week celebrating the centennial. The superintendent of Post ISD, Mike Comeaux gave a tour of the newest facility, Post Elementary School.

In 2014, the district faced a fire that burned down the original elementary school.

Two bond projects totaling $49.5 million dollars were used to build the new elementary school, with four classes per grade level, a science lab to be utilized district-wide, a gym and auditorium. It's really a multi-purpose facility.

The rest of that money has been used to build a new 74,000 sq. foot high school, track facility, and renovate the football stadium. The district plans to renovate the middle school as well.

"Currently, the only thing we have to finish here in Post ISD is to finish a parking lot at our football stadium. That will culminate basically $49.5 million two bond projects," Comeaux said.

He hopes that the new auditorium in the elementary school will be one the district can use to host one-act competitions for middle and high school.
