Lumber shortage on the Texas coast won't be affecting Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas -

With the rebuilding effort in full swing on the Texas coast, some experts worry there's not enough building supplies or labor to go around.

According to the National Association of Home Builders, the price of lumber has jumped almost 20 percent in the past year, adding to a shortage in laborers.

Corey Lusk with Betenbough Homes said these shortages are not affecting Lubbock.

"We're not seeing any issues with that right now and I don't think we will," Lusk said. "We're fortunate that we have strong local suppliers to help us with our lumber and we're confident that's not going to affect us at all."

Lusk adds that any labor shortages Lubbock may have at the moment are because of our market and the demand for new homes.
