Lubbock man indicted for manslaughter after fatal August crash

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A Lubbock man has been indicted for manslaughter in connection with a fatal crash in August.

Michael Hastings, 30, and front passenger Charles Smith, 25, were traveling in vehicle going south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Sunday, August 27. After crossing Idalou Road, the vehicle lost control, entered the center median, struck two light poles and tree before coming to a stop.

Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle in the median between the north and south bound lanes.

Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators determined speed a factor in the crash.

The warrant for Hastings was served around 5:00 p.m., Tuesday August 29.

Hastings was taken into police custody and charged with manslaughter.
