Westminster Presbyterian Church rises against world hunger

LUBBOCK, Texas -

One in nine of the world's population suffer from hunger.

To fight back Westminster Presbyterian Church and a few hundred volunteers partnered with Rise Against Hunger. They packed 55,000 meals to be distributed around the world.

Each bag packed by the volunteers will serve six meals. These meals are made up of soy, rice, dehydrated vegetables and a vitamin packet to help those who are malnourished.

"Our meals go all over the world so we're in 30 different countries right now," said Jeff Jones with Rise Against Hunger. "We have partners in those countries that receive the meals and use those in their individual programs. So a lot of the meals that we send out of Texas go to Central America, South America, and Haiti just because of our location."

There is not a destination set for the food packed by Westminster yet.
