Tech basketball encouraging students to value academics

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Teammates from Texas Tech men's basketball visited Dunbar College Prep Academy as part of the National Association of Basketball Coaches "Stay in to Win" program.

The program focuses on student success and dropout prevention. It helps students make commitments to academic achievement in order to get them closer to graduation.

"There's nothing you can't do in life that you put your mind to," said Dr. Gionet Cooper, former Tech basketball player. "It starts now, don't waste any time."

The team explained that basketball comes second to academic success and that determination not only wins games, but is also fundamental to succeeding in school.
