The Frenship Tigers are off to an 0-3 start to the season and hope to pick up their first win of 2017 on the road at Abilene Cooper (3-0) in the final game of non-district. Frenship has fallen in a variety of ways in the first three weeks under new Head Coach Jay Northcutt. The Tigers are most recently coming off of a 41-9 loss to cross-town rival Lubbock Cooper, however, Frenship had five giveaways in the contest.
One big takeaway from game 3 was the improvement coach Northcutt and his staff saw on the defensive side of the ball. Frenship and cooper were knotted up at 3-3 with about four minutes left in the first half before sever turnovers allowed Cooper to have short fields and score 21 points in 1:06 off the clock.
The Tigers will face a very athletic team in Abilene Cooper - a playoff team from one season ago. Myler Royals, a division one caliber receiver anchors the offense for the Cougars. Cooper has wins over Keller, Grapevine and Abilene High so far this season. Cooper won the matchup between the two teams last season 28-25 in Wolfforth, and the Cougars lead the all-time series 2-1.
Kickoff Friday will be at 7:30pm from Shotwell Stadium in Abilene. The game can be heard on Double T 97.3 FM with coverage beginning at 7 pm.
