The Lubbock-Cooper football team will hit the road for the second time this season when the Pirates travel to Weatherford, Texas to play the Weatherford Kangaroos out of district 3-6A. Lubbock-Cooper is coming off a big victory at home last week beating the Frenship Tigers 41-9. The Pirate defense continues to be a strong part of the team early on. However, Lubbock-Cooper’s offense started clicking as the Pirates got the running game going behind Eli Boyd and Jacob Dennis. Head Football Coach Max Kattwinkel stated that last week was the most complete game for the Pirates, “Defense has played well all season and tonight the offense started clicking and we were able to establish the run game. Special teams came up with big plays. So, overall it was our most complete game of the season.”
Weatherford: The Kangaroos are winless to begin the 2017 season but have played all three games close. Weatherford fell to Arlington Heights 31-27in week 1, 21-15 to Brewer in week 2, and 29-15 to Burleson last week. The Kangaroos are 0-3 for the first time since 2013 and is in search for a winning season for the first time since 2005. Billy Mathis is in his first season as the Head Coach of the Roos, Mathis comes to WHS after being the defensive coordinator at Aledo High School. Mathis brings experience and a winning culture to Weatherford, as he was part of 3 state championships that the Aledo Bearcats won in 2013, 2014 and 2016.
