Hot rest of the week in Lubbock

Hot rest of the week in Lubbock

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

THIS AFTERNOON: It's hot, at least by September standards. We've made it to 95 in Lubbock, which is hotter than any day last month. We may have been spoiled by a cool August. There also have been a few tiny showers on FOX34 VIPIR over the western South Plains, moving north to south. If anything is reaching the ground, it isn't much.

TONIGHT: Mainly clear, low near 59. Wind SE/S 5-10mph.

NEXT FEW DAYS: More heat. Tomorrow should again reach the mid 90s, wind S/SE 5-15mph. Thursday and Friday should reach the upper 90s in Lubbock with some readings off of the Caprock around 100. The south wind will also be a little stronger Thursday. We can't rule out an isolated shower or storm in this heat, but there isn't anything to bring widespread rain.

WEEKEND: It'll get a little more humid. There might be support for a few showers or storms late Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. But the chance is pretty slim each of those days.

A tropical system may develop in the eastern Pacific. One model has been pretty consistent taking it inland around the Baja, another model has consistently carried it west to weaken. Either way, we'll watch that region for the possibility of more humidity moving up to West Texas. That by itself isn't enough to make it rain, but could lead to a setup for some rain early next week.

Though there are several mentions of rain over the next week, there isn't a good chance at this point for any day.

7-day forecast

Hope you have a great rest of your day. Whitney will have the next forecast update early tomorrow morning.
