LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech celebrated a groundbreaking for the newest expansion of the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

The university system launched the first phase of construction for the School of Theatre and Dance Complex.

That included the renovation of the Charles E. Maedgen Junior Theatre, which was made possible by a $10 million donation from the J.T. and Margaret Talkington Charitable Foundation.

"I again want to express my extreme gratitude of J.T. and Margaret Talkington," said TTU President Lawrence Schovanec. "Today we celebrate their vision in a facility that reflects that vision, as well as the momentum we have at Texas Tech and especially in the arts."

More future plans for expansion involve a black-box theatre, lighting, new design labs, dressing rooms and classrooms.
