Ribbon cutting for Lubbock Complete the Streets Project

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The city held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the its Complete Streets Project on Broadway coming to an end.

The project is designed to balance safety and efficiency for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists. The design elements include sidewalks, medians, curb extensions, bicycle lanes or wide shoulders.

Each complete street is unique to that particular street, such as the bike lanes on Broadway and Avenue N.

"Bicycle lanes become shared lanes as they approach the intersections," Director of Public Works Wood Franklin. "Throughout the project it is a solid white line, which designates the difference between a traffic lane, and bicycle lane. But as it approaches an intersection, it becomes dashed allowing that vehicular movement to make a right-hand turn lane."
