LUBBOCK, Texas -

The South Plains Food Bank will kick off it's Kids Cafe Program at the start of the school year.

For the month of August, a donor has agreed to match dollar for dollar to reach a goal of $150,000.

"We are really focusing on feeding programs, we have Kids Cafe, we participate in backpack programs, this summer we have been doing our Summer Food Service Program and the whole idea is that if we feed kids then they are going to perform better in school," said food bank CEO David Weaver. "Hunger is a social issue as well as an educational issue."

This program feeds up to 1,200 students and the goal is to provide an additional 500 meals.
