Look Around Lubbock: K9 SplashFest

Lubbock Parks and Recreation hosts its annual K-9 SplashFest at Montelongo Pool on Sunday, August 13 from from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Dogs and people can swim together and dogs can compete in contests. City of Lubbock Animal Services will be providing microchips for dogs at the cost of $10 per dog. The last day all of the city pools will be open is Saturday, August 12, from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m., with the exception of Montelongo Pool for K-9 Splashfest. Calling all dogs! Montelongo Pool will be hosting the K-9 SplashFest on Sunday, August 13, 2017, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Sponsored by Parks and Recreation, this popular event allows people and their dogs to swim together in Montelongo Pool. Dogs can compete in three different contests: Swimsuit Competition, Retrieving Contest (from the side of pool or diving board), and 25-Yard Timed Race. Prizes will be awarded in each event. Dogs must be up-to-date on their rabies vaccination and have with them a 2017 rabies tag or certificate from a veterinarian. Dogs must be on leash, and aggressive dogs or dogs in heat are not allowed. Door prizes and concessions will be available. City of Lubbock Animal Services will host a booth at this event and will be providing microchips for dogs! Microchips are the best way to ensure that a lost pet is reunited with its owner. Cost for microchip is $10 per dog.

K-9 SPLASHFEST RULES AND RESTRICTIONS

  1. Dogs should be at least six months of age.
  2. Must bring proof of current rabies vaccine on the day of the event.  All dogs will be checked onsite.  Dogs without current proof of rabies vaccination WILL NOT be allowed in the event.
  3. Dog must be accompanied by a person 18 years or older. Children may participate with their dogs if accompanied by their parent or guardian.
  4. No more than one dog per person.
  5. Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Dogs must be leashed when not in the water.
  6. No female dogs in season/heat allowed.
  7. Aggressive dogs will not be permitted to participate. Out of control dogs or dogs exhibiting aggressive behavior must leave the pool area immediately.
  8. Owners must clean up after accidents.
  9. People may swim with their dogs at their own risk.

LAST DAY TO SWIM AT MUNICIPAL POOLS – AUGUST 12

With summer winding down, the Parks and Recreation department will be closing all City pools for the swim season on Sunday, August 13, 2017, with the exception of Montelongo Pool for K-9 Splashfest. The last day all of the pools will be open is Saturday, August 12, from 1:00-6:00 p.m. Pools include Clapp Pool, Maxey Pool, and Simmons Pool. Montelongo Pool is hosting the annual K-9 SplashFest from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on August 13.

Normal hours of operation through the remainder of the season are Tuesday through Sunday 1:00-6:00 p.m. Entrance fees are $2.00 for youth (17 and under) and $2.50 for adults.
