Lubbock, Texas – In honor of National Health Center Week, August 13th through August 19th, 2017, Community Health Center of Lubbock, Inc. (CHCL) will kick off its 25th anniversary campaign by hosting a Back to School Summer Fun Fest at the Arnett Benson Medical and Dental Clinic located at 3301 Clovis Road on Saturday, August 12. The event will run from 9 a.m to noon.

“The Back to School Event is a time for families to prepare for going back to school” said Claudia Bustos, Outreach Coordinator for CHCL. “We are here for our children who are going to need school supplies and immunizations while enjoying games, music, food and fun. These services are provided at no cost to our families.” Each year, the second week in August is dedicated to recognizing the services and contributions of America’s health centers in providing access to affordable, high quality, cost-effective health care to medically vulnerable and undeserved people. This year’s theme is “Celebrating America’s Health Centers: The Key to Healthier Communities.” CHCL is one of the health centers across the country employing 150 plus employees, and offering services in eight service delivery sites across Lubbock, including two mobile units that serve the areas of Lubbock, Crosby, Garza, Lynn and Terry counties. CHCL provides comprehensive primary care services such as medical, pediatric, women’s health and family medicine, dental, eye, and mental health services. In 2016 alone, CHCL provided services to 26,114 patients and serviced over 10% of the Lubbock population, making it the largest safety net in the area.

Today, there are over 9,000 delivery sites across the country serving over 24 million people nationwide and saving the health care system $24 billion a year from reduced hospitalizations and visits to the emergency rooms. CHCL was established in Lubbock in 1992 as a safety net provider and formed under the principle of a “hand up” rather than a “hand out”. This concept allows CHCL to provide affordable, quality healthcare. In celebrating NCHC week, CHCL will kick off its 25th year anniversary campaign and continue to celebrate this silver anniversary throughout this year.

CHCL encourages everyone to attend the Fun Fest on August 12th. Children must be present to receive backpacks, and immunizations will be administered only upon display of a shot record by a parent.
