update 4:36 p.m. - Police have identified the victim of this hit-and-run as Joshua Allen Noble, 20.

A bicyclist hit on the South Loop access road early Tuesday morning has died from his injuries.

According to the Lubbock Police Department, an officer patrolling nearby heard what sounded like a car crash on the westbound access road near University Avenue. The officer saw a pick-up drive away. The officer followed a fluid trail left by the truck until he stopped it near 66th Street and Avenue P. Investigators say Casey Baker, 38, was pulled over and arrested for failure to stop and render aid and intoxication assault.

At this same time, other officers responded to the crash site and found a man lying in the roadway. He was taken to the hospital, where he died a few hours later.

Now that the man has died Baker may face more severe charges. Police are trying to identify the victim and notify next of kin.
