Portales daycare workers indicted on child abuse charges

Posted: Updated:

A Roosevelt County Grand Jury indicted two in-home daycare providers on child abuse charges after reportedly leaving two children in a hot car, resulting in the death of one of the children.

Mary Taylor, age 62, of Portales NM; and Sandi Taylor, age 31, of Portales, NM; are charged with first degree child abuse resulting in death and first degree child abuse resulting in great bodily harm.  The first degree felonies each carry a maximum punishment of 18 years in prison.

The other child is still in critical condition at a Lubbock hospital.

The pair were arrested July 25, and are being held without bond at the Roosevelt County Detention Center, pending Judge Donna Mowrer’s decision on bond or release conditions.
