Rain chance increases this weekend

Rain chance increases this weekend

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

THIS AFTERNOON: Like the past few days, it's a hot, mostly sunny afternoon on the South Plains. Most of the area will reach the mid 90s, with some upper 90s already by 2:15 off of the Caprock at Paducah and Lake Alan Henry. A few storms run from Far West Texas up to Ruidoso and Albuquerque. Those storms are moving NW. Our area should stay dry into this evening.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear, low near 71. Wind SW 5-15mph.

TOMORROW: Lots of sun with a few afternoon clouds, high near 96, wind S/SW 10-16mph.

WEEKEND: A few isolated storms are possible west of Lubbock Saturday. The chance gets a little bit better area-wide Sunday and Monday. It's still going to be hot, but the heat level should come down some beginning Sunday. Even though the rain chance gets better Sunday and Monday, it's still not great. If you have outdoor plans you should be able to get them in with a possible brief storm delay.

NEXT WEEK: High pressure aloft should expand across the western United States toward our region. This will keep the high in the mid 90s.

7-day forecast

I had a great time visiting with kids at an Earth science camp at the Science Spectrum today. Look for the next forecast update here from Whitney tomorrow morning.
