A grandmother fled from her home in the 7400 block of Auburn, just west of Upland, and called 911 reporting she'd been assaulted and that the suspect was barricaded with six children possibly inside.

Deputies responded in force including the SWAT unit. Nearby homes in the neighborhood were evacuated as a precaution. After attempting to make contact with the suspect inside, the team went into the home and found no one there.

Later, deputies were able to contact the children's mother and learned they were with her. She brought them back to verify they were safe.

There is no report of any arrest made and no word on what happened to the man who reportedly assaulted the older woman.

Lubbock Congressman pushing for congressional term limits

Lubbock Congressman Jodey Arrington is partnering with a California democrat to call for congressional term limits.

Arrington, along with Congressman Ro Khanna have jointly filled a measure that would limit house lawmakers to serving six 2-year terms, and senators to two 6-year terms.

Arrington says this will change the course of the country in a meaningful way, by changing the culture in Washington.

"I think we're in a very unusual time," said Arrington.  "I think if there was ever momentum to do a structural change like this ,and if you ever had a president who was more committed to draining the swamp and having some fundamental change, it's now."

Khanna points to the California state assembly's term limits as an example that the system can work.

The legislation wouldn't penalize any lawmakers who takes office from a special election, still allowing them to finish out there full elected terms outside of that interim period.

Worldwide effort to keep Trump happy on 1st trip abroad

WASHINGTON (AP) - When President Donald Trump sits down for dinner in Saudi Arabia, caterers have ensured that his favorite meal - steak with a side of ketchup - will be offered alongside the traditional local cuisine.

At NATO and the Group of 7 summits, foreign delegations have gotten word that the new U.S. president prefers short presentations and lots of visual aids. At all of Trump's five stops on his first overseas trip, his team has spent weeks trying to build daily downtime into his otherwise jam-packed schedule.

It's all part of a worldwide effort to accommodate America's homebody president on a voyage with increasingly raised stakes, given the ballooning controversy involving his campaign's possible ties to Russia. For a former international businessman, Trump simply doesn't have an affinity for much international.

Trump claims witch hunt, says he's most hounded leader ever

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Donald Trump is denying that his campaign collaborated with Russia or that he tried to kill an FBI probe of the issue.

He says that even his "enemies" recognize his innocence, and he's declaring himself the most unfairly hounded president in history.

Trump spoke on Thursday at the White House as the Justice Department official who appointed a special counsel to independently lead a Trump-Russia investigation briefed the entire Senate in private at the Capitol.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was returning to the Capitol on Friday for another closed-door session, this time with all members of the House.

Autopsy: Cornell killed himself by hanging

DETROIT (AP) - A medical examiner has determined that Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell killed himself by hanging in a Detroit hotel room following a concert.

A full autopsy report was not yet completed Thursday afternoon.

Two Detroit newspapers had earlier cited a police spokesman Cornell was found with "a band around his neck."

A different Detroit Police spokesman, Michael Woody, told The Associated Press Thursday that he could not confirm that Cornell died with a band around his neck.

The Detroit Free Press reported that Detroit police social media manager Dontae Freeman said Cornell was found dead in a hotel room at the MGM Grand Detroit hotel with "a band around his neck." The Detroit News cited Freeman in a similar report.

The 52-year-old Cornell had just performed with Soundgarden at Detroit's Fox Theatre.
