LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock ISD third graders learned a valuable lesson about washing and drying clothes.

Students of Brown Elementary competed in a fast-paced laundry relay race where the students cycled through a variety of stations on separating laundry, filling the washer, and folding shirts.

The school also received a new washer and dryer set from Conn's Homeplus through a program that supports local schools.

Brown Elementary teacher, Rosemary Braswell, said, "In second grade they start learning the idea of citizenship, and we build on that in third grade. So, them being able to take what we have learned in class, now they can take the ability to wash clothes and be a good citizen at home as well."

The students ended the celebration on a sweet note with an ice cream treat.
