LUBBOCK, Texas -

THIS MORNING: It's in the 60s around most of our area, with a steady S/SE wind. That wind has been drawing more humidity up onto the Caprock. The dew point map shows the better moisture where the number is in the mid 50s to lower 60s. Here's the current plot:

TODAY: The dry line will probably set up somewhere over the western South Plains by mid-afternoon. Use the dew point map...the dry line separates the humid air in 50s and 60s east from the dry air in the 30s and lower west. In the humid air there's a slight chance for a few storms. Where storms develop they could turn severe, with the risk of strong wind and hail. Here's the early-morning Storm Prediction Center outlook, showing that risk Plainview and points north. We can't rule out a strong storm farther south near Lubbock.

severe outlook

Today's high near 93, wind SE/S 15-25mph.

TONIGHT: Low near 65, becoming cloudy by morning. There could be some drizzle or fog by morning.

TOMORROW: Warm, mostly sunny and breezy again, high near 88. Wind S/SW 15-28mph. The dry line will mix east of Lubbock by the afternoon, slight chance for storms over the Rolling Plains. This is where the Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the risk for severe storms tomorrow.

severe weather outlook tomorrow

The humidity will return back onto the Caprock tomorrow night, as the dry line retreats west. We may see a few storms late tomorrow night around the area.

REST OF THE WEEK: It'll be dry, mostly sunny and breezy Wednesday and Thursday. We next see a chance for storms in Lubbock Friday and Saturday. It'll also turn much cooler by Saturday, high in the lower 70s.

7-day forecast

Have a great day. Rudy will have the next forecast update here later today.
