LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock Police graduated four officers from the Lateral Academy.

These officers previously worked at a different agency and underwent an abbreviated academy.

Unlike the normal 24 week academy, Police Chief Greg Stevens said the Lateral Academy is only ten weeks and is more manageable for those wanting to make the switch to Lubbock.

"They don't need the basics and the foundation, because they already have that and already bring that to the table," Stevens said. "It gives us a great opportunity to bring in experienced law enforcement officers into Lubbock and really gain both for the city and the individual."

The ceremony included multiple recognitions for awards like the Good Citizens Awards granted to Hunter Needham and Asa Rutherford.
