Conservative super PAC requests info on local congressional candidates

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A conservative political research and communications group asked Texas Tech for information on two professors running for Congress as Democrats.

The university confirms a vice president of America Rising LLC sent requests for salary, employment dates and any disciplinary record for Dan Epstein and Miguel Levario.

Each formally announced this month that they will run as Democrats for the 19th Congressional seat in 2018.

It's currently held by freshman Republican Jodey Arrington.

In a statement, Epstein writes in part, "I have nothing to hide from America Rising." He adds, "America Rising is devoted to fishing for ways to destroy Democratic candidates, and i guess it makes sense that they're coming after me."

"I am not surprised by this request," Levario told FOX34. "People told me to expect this kind of scrutiny from the other side. I have nothing to hide and there is no disciplinary action."
