Veteran sentenced to jail for drunk driving

District Judge Trey McClendon sentenced a drunk driver to 30 days in jail and eight years of supervised release for intoxicated assault. Daniel Grissom, 25, was involved in a 2012 collision near Inler and 19th street that injured Lori Little. A jury convicted him in March.

Defense Attorneys argued the combat veteran was suffering from post traumatic stress which led him to drink. He reportedly received treatment from the VA hospital in Big Spring.

During sentencing Judge McClendon said he hopes Lubbock has a veterans court someday that could deal with similar issues. The judge ordered Grissom to complete the DWI court program and follow other conditions.
