Injured officer to be released soon from hospital

The LPD officer seriously injured while trying to arrest a suspected car thief is improving. Corporal Ryan Durret is expected to be released from the hospital soon and will continue his recovery at home.

Durrett was thrown from his cruiser when the suspect reportedly carjacked the officers SUV and drove it into a signal light stanchion. Jose Escarcega, 23, was subdued by backup officers while reportedly beating Durret. He's charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer.
