LPD officer injured while on the job now suing suspect

An LPD officer seriously injured in the line of duty now suing the suspected drunk driver who hit him. In the petition Officer Corey Owens claims Jesse Tello was "negligent" and "grossly negligent."

Owens suffered disabling injuries in may while directing traffic around a flooded intersection. LPD reports Tello was drunk and speeding when he hit the officer's parked patrol car which then spun and struck Owens. The officer's right foot was crushed and part of his leg had to be amputated.

Owens is seeking damages in excess of $1 million for medical expenses,physical and mental pain, impairment and disfigurement, punitive damages, and lost wages.
