The fifth annual United Family school supply drive is now underway.
Project SOS: Supply Our Students will run through August 11th. You can drop school supplies into barrels at the entrances of United, Market Street and Amigos locations in Lubbock and Slaton, or you can make cash donations at the checkout.
Area superintendents held a shopping spree Wednesday morning to kick start the drive.
"We have a lot of families that come from economically-disadvantaged homes and they struggle to meet ends. They struggle to buy food. They struggle to buy clothes for their children," said Lubbock ISD Superintendent Berhl Robertson. "So this is one thing we can do to help them along, so they don't have to spend money buying pencils and paper and scissors and glue and folders and that sort of thing, because that can get very expensive."
School districts that will benefit from the drive include Lubbock, Lubbock-Cooper, Frenship, Roosevelt and Slaton.
