RECORD RAIN: We picked up 2.43” of rain at the Lubbock airport through Midnight, which broke the previous daily record for July 6 of 1.53”. This pushes us up to 20.51” YTD, which is 10.81” above the YTD average. Also, if we don’t get another drop of rain or flake of snow rest of this year we’ll finish 2015 above the 19.12” annual average.
Since Midnight it’s been about another 3/4” at the airport. Here are top 24-hour totals from yesterday running through 4:30a Tuesday from the Texas Tech Mesonet:
Lake Alan Henry 3.76”
White River Lake 2.66”
Near Texas Tech 2.11”
Roaring Springs 1.67”
TODAY: It’ll stay cloudy and cool, high temp 15 to 20 degrees below the average. The heavy rain will be moving out of our area this morning, but we have the chance for a few more showers or storms through today. It won’t take much lift to get some rain because it is so humid. But we won’t be seeing the heavy rain like yesterday. Wind N/NE 10-18mph.
NEXT FEW DAYS: There could be a few showers or storms tomorrow morning, then a few more storms tomorrow evening. It’s just a slight chance for storms. Then a few more storms are possible on Thursday…again just a slight chance. It will gradually get warmer, but only 80s tomorrow through Friday.
WEEKEND: It does turn warmer this weekend with a lot of sun. After all this rain it’ll keep the temperature down compared to what it would be with dry soil…but we should reach the 90s by Sunday. It looks mostly sunny and warm into the first part of next week.
Have a great day. Rudy will have a full update to the forecast here later today.
