A Lubbock same-sex couple became the first to get a marriage license in the county minutes after the county clerk's office opened Monday morning. This comes a little more than a week after the Supreme Court ruling made same-sex marriages legal in all 50 states.
Connie Garcia and Crystal Stodghill both said they didn't expect they'd be able to marry here.
"It's pretty special, it's not something we thought would happen any time soon, if ever...maybe a couple years from now," Garcia said.
Stodghill said she was emotional when she learned of the High Court ruling.
"I was in tears when I heard the news," Stodghill said. "I was like 'what?!' My sister...I was like 'they did it, they actually did it'. She was like 'oh my God!'."
Both women said the process was fairly simple. They said their wedding is planned for next Tuesday, at the Lubbock County Justice of the Peace Precinct 3.Click here
