Detained woman accused of lying to U.S. Marshals

A Lubbock woman held on criminal charges is accused of lying to U.S. Marshals, hindering an investigation.  Maria Guadalupe Baltazar, 36, reportedly misled investigators during the search for Ernest Ray Zavala who was "erroneously released" from the Lubbock County Detention Center last week.

According to investigators Baltazar was interviewed by Marshals in Lubbock and claimed she had been on vacation in the Las Vegas - San Diego area when Zavala was released. She also claimed he did not join her there. A report indicates she later admitted to paying a friend to bring Zavala to Las Vegas. When interviewed a second time she reportedly said that Zavala had left for Dallas. Recovered text messages indicate Zavala was in Lubbock waiting for Baltazar to get a car ready for him.

Making false statements to a federal agent is a federal crime.
